In 2007, National Radio Personality Michael Baisden of the Michael Baisden Show and attorney Daryl K. Washington had the mindset that an innocent person should not be denied justice due to the lack of adequate financial resources and quality legal representation. This project gained momentum due in part to the legal and racial injustices that were taking place in Jena, La. As a result, Michael Baisden organized a march that was estimated to have over 50,000 protestors. Through this vision UJLDEF was created. UJLDEF will be working with members of the National Bar Association to create an attorney referral program.
